The House of Librarians for the Promotion of Reading among Children and Young People

 

"Children Library "

Children and teenagers library of the Librarian House, which is related to the Children’s Book Council, has been working since the spring of 2005. This library holds over 5000 resources in all fields (books, press, CD, talking books, touch books, maps, educational posters and concentration games). At the moment, this library enjoys more than 1000 members (boys and girls) ranging from different age groups (3 months to 16 years old). The resources are kept in open shelves based on DOI (Digital Object Identifier) numbering system and can be found and located by a special library software. In addition to keeping the resources and holding workshops for children and teenagers (introduction to reference books, introduction to children and teenagers press, teaching librarianship to children and teenagers, teaching research methodology, introduction to life skills, etc.), this library holds additional ceremonies and programs on different national, religious and international occasions during the year. Apart from the above mentioned services, the other activities of this library include going on field trips to different scientific, cultural and artistic centers, storytelling in the story room, playing games and entertainment, creative playing, reading stories aloud, showing movies, book criticism, visiting writers and illustrators of children books, and so on. Children and teenagers from 0 to 16 years old can sign up by paying the membership fee and then can use the databases and the programs. This library is open every day from 8 am to 5 pm except Thursdays, Fridays and official holidays.  

 

The Report of the Workshops Held in the fall and winter, 2009

 

"Study Circles"

This workshop is held to improve the study level, vocabulary, awareness, and verbal knowledge and to introduce the Persian and world literature, read correctly and fluently for different age groups.
Preschool (infant to 6 years old): Children attend this workshop along with her mother’s so that the mothers learn how to treat their children. In this workshop, the story of the books was told through describing the pictures, i.e. the children guessed the story by looking through the pictures and then the books were read for them.

Elementary school (6 to 9 years old): First, the book “Where is here” by Qodsi Qazinour was read by the trainer. Then, the children practiced how to read fluently and finally they performed the story of the book.

middle school (9 to 12 years old): The activities of this workshop include reading books and telling stories for children, performing a play by the children, games and riddles.

12 to 14 years old: the books “the boy” and “Matilda” by Roald Dull and the book “Parsian and I” by Arman Aryan were read so that the children could read and express their opinions. In the next sessions, the children told the summary of the stories and the trainer introduced them with the fantastic and realistic literature.

"Life skills"

The life skills workshop is held simultaneously for the members of Children’s Library and the members of the Specialized Library on Saturdays from 3 pm to 5 pm. The subject matters raised in this workshop were:

1-      The ability to relate matters

2-      Violence and ways to manage it

3-      Self-worth

"Art and Creativity for Preschool"

In order to make paper dolls, at first, the children learned how to use scissors to cut through paper. Their mothers helped them. Then, the children used the cuts of paper to make dolls. In the second session, the children learned how to tie canvas string by making doll using canvas string, wood and cotton. To make finger dolls, two methods were used:1- using plaster bands. The children twisted the bands around their fingers and painted them after they were dry. 2- Using clay. The children were taught how to make bullets and make dolls using the bullets.
